Who is this qualification for?
From 1 April 2025, if you want to renew your SIA Door Supervisor licence, you must attain the new refresher qualification to perform effectively in the private security industry.

110 Minute Exam – 72 Questions (70% Pass Mark) | Completion of written Evidential Statement

Eligibility
To be eligible to undertake the training, candidates must be able to evidence the following
- Must be able to meet the ID requirements set by the SIA
- Must hold a valid Emergency First Aid certificate (HSE 1981)*
- Undertake online basic English assessments achieving appropriate results *If you require EFAW training, we can provide this for an additional charge. Funding may be available for this course.

How much does an SIA licence cost and can VIRPIO SECURITY assist?
The fee is 184 for renewal. In some cases, we assist with funding depending on residency and earnings. Speak to our representative.
I have criminal convictions; can I still apply for renewal?
This is not at our discretion. Use the SIA websites criminal records indicator to check your eligibility for renewal.
How long does my Door Supervisor Refresher Qualification last?
It lasts for 3 years. You will likely need to undergo refresher training again every three years when renewing your license.
How long does it take to renew my SIA licence?
The SIA aims to process applications within 25 working days. On average, the entire process takes around 6 weeks.
What if I fail elements of my training?
VIRPIO SECURITY provides one free re-sit (funded candidates only). Further re-sits cost 50 per module.
Do I have to renew my licence?
Yes, it expires after three years. You can start the renewal process up to four months before expiration. Fee is 184.
Can I work with VIRPIO SECURITY?
Learners are guaranteed an interview opportunity. If you meet the job description requirements, a job will be offered.
