The SIA has introduced new and updated qualifications for Door Supervisors and Security Guard professionals. Onward from 1 April 2021 all new applicants will be required to do additional training of first aid before receiving licenced-linked qualification to work in the security industry as a door supervisor or security guard.
WHY IS THIS CHANGE NEEDED?
These new changes have been introduced to ensure high level of professionalism within the private security industry. The authority expects professionals to have hands-on experiences along with a stronger skill set that is required for the role. This includes the professional ability to manage potential risks and threats caused by new technology.
WHAT NEW TOPICS WILL BE INTRODUCED?
- Health and Safety procedures
- Communication skills
- Incident management
- Citizen’s arrest
- Protecting vulnerable people
- Emergency procedures
- Record keeping
- COVID-19 compliance
TOP UP TRAINING FOR EXISTING LICENCE HOLDERS
Onward from October 2021, those who have a valid SIA front line licence will need to have ‘top up’ training to ensure that they have the same level of professional awareness as new entrants in the industry. These top up qualifications will include an updated version of close protection qualifications to make sure that all front line licence holders are up to date with the knowledge and trained to face new technological challenges. After acquiring these new skills, people working in the private security industry can:
- keep the public safe
- follow new working practice
- understand recent changes to the law
- make the best use of new technology
