The SIA Security Guard Level 2 Qualification is designed for individuals seeking to obtain a full SIA frontline licence for Security Guarding. The training focuses on core areas such as understanding the role of a security guard, conflict management, health and safety, legal responsibilities, and effective communication. Upon completion, you will meet the necessary requirements to be deployed in security officer roles performing licencable activities as outlined in the Private Security Industry Act (2001)

Unit 1: Principles of Working in the Private Security Industry
110 Minute Exam – 72 Questions (70% Pass Mark)

Eligibility
To be eligible to undertake the training course, candidates must be able to evidence the following.
- Candidates must be 18 years or older
- Must be able to meet the ID requirements set by the SIA
- Must hold a valid Emergency First Aid certificate that meets the requirements of the Health & Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981*
- Undertake online basic English assessments achieving appropriate results

I have criminal convictions; can I still apply for an SIA licence?
This is not at the discretion of VIRPIO SECURITY. The SIA website has a criminal records indicator which will give you some idea as to whether or not you would be eligible to apply for a licence.
How long does my Level 2 Security Guard Qualification last for?
Your Level 2 Security Guard qualification typically lasts for 3 years from the date you successfully complete the training and assessment and attained the physical licence. After 3 years, you'll need to renew your qualification in order to continue working as a Security Guard legally. This process involves completing a Refresher Course and re-taking any necessary assessments. It is also important to ensure that your SIA licence details are up to date.
How long does it take to get my SIA licence?
The Security Industry Authority aims to process all applications within 25 working days. However, on average the entire process often takes around 6 weeks.
What if I fail elements of my training?
VIRPIO SECURITY will provide candidates with one free re-sit (funded candidates only) for formal examinations. This will be subject to a threshold being met through mock exams and at the discretion of your course tutor. Any further re-sits will be at a cost of £50 per module.
Do I have to renew my licence?
Your licence will expire three years from the date it was issued. Once it expires, you cannot legally work as a Security Guard. If you wish to continue working, you must renew it. You can begin renewing your current SIA Security Guard Licence up to four months before its expiration. The new licence will only become active once your existing licence has expired. Please note that the application fee is £184 and is non-refundable.
